Pompetti Trip
January 9, 2013
Today we took a bus to Pompeii, the Roman city south of Naples buried in the first century by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The city was buried by up to 20 feet of ash from 79 AD until the 1748. So much of what we understand about daily life during the Roman empire comes from the excavations of this town.
Greetings from Rome
January 6, 2013
We arrived in Rome on a beautiful morning exhausted and excited. We spent most of the first day getting to know the area and learning a few Italian words. To welcome the students to Rome, we had a welcome dinner of pizza, of course. Tomorrow we will go to the Colosseum. More pictures to come!
Ellis Island
September 2012
This semester we will be studying the history of New York City. Recently we went to Ellis Island to better understand the immigrant history in New York. When we go to Italy we will talk about the people who left Italy and the differences between Italians and Italian Americans. Also, we will see who immigrated to Italy over the recent decades.
